Project Talison Lithium – Greenbushes WA

The project at Talison Lithium’s Greenbushes site required the large-scale deployment of over 900,000m² of Bituminous Geosynthetic Material (BGM) to establish a tailings storage facility. Given the fast-paced construction schedule, efficient turnaround times for Construction Quality Assurance (CQA) submissions, Electrical Leak Detection and Destructive Testing were crucial. Compliance with strict regulatory standards added further complexity to the project, necessitating seamless data collection, testing and reporting processes.

GeoQ deployed a dedicated team of six personnel on a continuous 2:1 roster to oversee and execute the installation of the BGM liner. The team systematically collected installation data, prepared Manufacturing Data Reports (MDR) packages and conducted Electrical Leak Detection testing to ensure material integrity. Additionally, all work adhered to third-party NATA-accredited Destructive Testing standards.

Recognising the logistical challenges of operating in a remote location, GeoQ established an on-site destructive testing laboratory to conduct shear testing of BGM seams. This innovative approach reduced result turnaround times from an industry-standard 10 days to just 24 hours, eliminating costly freight delays and expediting project progression.

GeoQ’s approach ensured zero wait time for CQA installation documentation, facilitating immediate design verification and commissioning of the TSF4 and TSF5 facilities. The comprehensive data collection and real-time testing processes not only met but exceeded industry expectations. The project’s execution demonstrated best-in-class efficiency and regulatory compliance, reinforcing GeoQ’s reputation as an industry leader in geosynthetic material installation and quality assurance.

This ongoing partnership has positioned GeoQ as a preferred provider for future installations and CQA services at the Greenbushes site. Our ability to deliver seamless, high-quality solutions in challenging environments underscores our commitment to excellence and innovation.
